I believe it’s my inherent right to voice out my mind on this subject. Islam allows objective and productive discussion without which da’wah would be meaningless for to propagate Islam and the word of Allah must be conveyed in subtly persuasive discourse. Here I don’t argue on the permissibility of the Maulod celebration. Though my forebears of old taught me the significance in Muslim’s life of Maulod and Ashura and Eid’l Fitr and Eid’l Adha and the rest important days in Islam, those are not obligatory, indeed, upon the Muslims.
So my take on the issue is why focus to insist at this most critical moment your opinion on this minute issue when the Muslims all over are engulfed by misfortunes and sufferings? This MUST be an important discussion among us. The debating and bickering on Maulod, Ashura, appearance of new moon etc. have not helped us to strengthen our belief. Instead, it makes many Muslim stubborn to belie and deny. Badn tomiyopo.
While Muslim religious scholars in the Philippines are busy arguing with each other on whether Maulid An-Nabi, the Prophet’s birthday, may Allah send His peace and blessings upon him and his progeny, is Bid’ah or not, many Muslim Filipinos on the other hand are busy celebrating their birthdays in cool cozy places against the fatwah on the unacceptability of birthday celebratioon.
It's very clear they no longer listen to the fatwah of the so-called scholars who call such celebration as Bid’ah if not haram. It’s obvious the Ulama does no longer hold strong influence upon the local Muslims and it’s due to bickering and bragging among the so-called scholars that let loose the trust of their flock. Many a radio listener I know turn off their transistor device upon hearing an Aleem doing sermon. May Allah forgive us.
Added to this irony, there are assuming people who appear to be knowledgeable in Islamic jurisprudence. They keep on insisting their opinion as the only truth and announce to the whole world through the social media that anyone who goes against them is a wayward and goes to hell. "Don’t say Maulod is permissible, else they’d curse you to hell." Astighfirullah, they level themselves with Allah who is the only authority to determine if a person goes to Jannah or Jahannam.
Have a Blessed Maulidin Nabi. May Allah guide us to the Right path. – Mas NY
