Recently, October 16 marked the day when, four years ago, a protracted siege that created a huge humanitarian crisis and which had shattered the lives of Marawi citizens came to an end. Or at least, that could be said of the hostilities.

Martial Law, the 1972 Marawi Uprising and the 2017 Marawi Siege: What have they in common?
Today, Sept. 21, 2021, is the 49th anniversary of the 1972 Martial Law. This is the first martial rule that the Philippines has been placed under. The second Martial Law was declared by President Duterte on May 24, 2017, a day after a group of Muslim militants or terrorists laid siege on Marawi City.
