Mayors, don't be vindictive

"In the spirit of the coming Holy Month of Ramadan, we beg you to please not be vindictive at this time of unprecedented global crisis. May God bless you for your kindness and sympathy. Ameen."

The Coronavirus Disease 2019 (Covid-19) does not choose who it will inflict or not. We live in very dangerous times with the advent of the plague that until now no antidote or vaccine has been discovered.

At this time of crisis, let us be human enough not to be vindictive. Every human being is entitled to any form of relief from the goverrnment or not -- foods, medicines and even shelters -- and don't take that entitlement away from him just because of political differences in the past.

There are reports reaching us that mayors, and even barangay chairmen, are not giving government relief goods to those who are not their political followers or are not registered voters in their respective towns or villages.

This is one bad habit I really don't understand among many politicians in our homeland in particular and the country in general. In this time of global pandemic, let us not be vindictive. After all, we are Filipinos. And no one is exempted from the deadly pandemic virus.

I heard of the warning of the national government to strictly penalize those officials who are withholding the relief assistance or who are corrupt or who do not perform their tasks amid the pandemic Coronavirus repeatedly announced over the media platforms.

But since there are a lot of hindrances in order to carry out such warning, time is of the essence and hungry stomachs, illnesses including stresses, shuttered dreams and other pains can not wait. We can hardly wait for our urgent neccessities to come.

As the Holy Month of Ramadan is almost around, may we appeal to the mayors and village chairpersons to please fairly and equally distribute relief assistance to all barangays and residents even if they are not politically aligned or not registered voters in their areas?

COVID-19 hits no exception.
